In 2005 several people told me that Barney's owner was neglecting him.  I put a friendly note through her door asking her if she would like some help.  I had put my mobile number on the note and she rang me the same day and asked if I could get him rehomed.  I went to fetch him right away.  He hadn't been with me long when he became very ill.  He wouldn't eat, was listless and kept being sick.  The vets found that he had swallowed something and he needed emergency surgery.  It turned out that he had swallowed a rubber nut - which I have kept!  As the op cost £400 it is the most expensive rubber nut going!

Belle and Fezziwig were both living on grassland near the railway line.  In February 2005 Belle had two kittens, both female.  We took Belle, her two-day old kittens and Fezziwig to my house and looked after them all there until the kittens were 8 weeks' old.  Belle and Fezziwig still live with me whilst the two kittens were rehomed together to a nice family in Clitheroe, Lancs

Billy was found in  Nelson, Lancs.  He was very lame and in a poorly condition.  The vets thought he had leukaemia but fortunately tests proved negative.  He came to live with me in 1997 and is still with me.

Minstrel was a little waif living under the multi-storey car park in Burnley, Lancashire.  We borrowed a humane trap in order to catch him.  We were going to ask a sanctuary to rehome him but he was so affectionate towards us that we couldn't let him go!  This was in 2002.

Pixie was a stray cat that was living near a riverbank in Barrowford near Nelson in Lancashire.  His first owners had abandoned him and then my partner's next-door neighbour started feeding him outside.  However, the neighbour moved house and did not want to take Pixie so my partner took him in.

Rosie came to live with me in 1995.  She had various health problems and she is now on permanent medication for a thyriod problem.

Sooty was an abandoned cat, also from Nelson.  He came to live with me in 2001.  He is a very nervous cat and needs a lot of tlc.

Tazz had belonged to a family in Nelson who gave him away to two young men who lived together. Someone set the young mens' house on fire one night.  Fortunately, the young men were not in the house but the fire crew brought out two cats.  One cat died; the other cat was Tazz.  I fostered him until a nice home could be found for him.  This happened in 2005.

The two dogs Candy and Digby were both strays who were about to be put down by the people at a dog compund.  They were rehomed together and went to some lovely people in Brierfield, Lancashire

Zak was a two month old abandoned kitten when I found him in 1996.  I found out that his owners had moved house and abandoned him on the street because one of their children had asthma and was allergic to cats.  He had ear, mouth and stomach infections and he too was thought to have leukaemia.  However, he is still with me and he is reasonably healthy.

Peggy and Poppy were both strays who I first started feeding outside.  Poppy was only a kitten and she was living in a cavity wall of a factory.  These two went to live with a lovely lady in Darwen, Lancs

Fred was a stray who was taken in by an elderly couple.  However, after 7 months the old lady died and the old gentleman went to live with his daughter.  He left Fred behind, thinking that he would revert to the wild and take care of himself.  However, Fred remained living in the backyard and kept trying to get back into the house.  Fred lives with me.
